CHARACTER
Name: Theodore
Canon: Persona 3 Portable
Age: Real age unknown, appears to be a young adult.
Timeline: After the game's conclusion.
If playing another character from the same canon, how will you deal with this?: N/A

Personality: Theodore, or Theo, for short, is first revealed to the player after Igor, the master of the velvet room, asks the protagonist what they envision the second resident of the velvet room as. Should they answer male, Theodore will become the assistant for the rest of the game, as well as the optional crazy strong boss.

Since his introduction, he always shows himself to be polite and educated as can be through the possible interactions with him in the velvet room, also showing a very, very large level of lack of knowledge regarding the world outside the room he's a resident of.

Much like Elizabeth, one of his older sisters, he places requests upon the player, generally involving retrieving items from monsters for him, or items from the real world, generally very menial, common items that pique his curiosity. Being a resident of the velvet room, he has close to no contact to the outside world with the exception of the "guests", and even then, there isn't much in the realm of information that he learns.

Due to being cut off from the outside world so much, he's also very inexperienced socially, being awfully naive and uneducated on most matters that don't involve the room in some way. In fact, after completing a certain request, he reveals that his older sisters, Elizabeth and Margaret, once fed him dog food, knowing he would willingly eat it due to his curious, naive nature. This probably isn't the only case of their bullying, and as a matter of fact, though this is unconfirmed, in one of the screenshots of the new game, he's seen wearing a very interesting garment, which may also, though this is pure speculation even if it is highly likely, be a result of his elder siblings' bullying.

From his naivety stems his curiosity, which he tries to satisfy by the requests he asks from the guest, the protagonist. Every so often, granted that the player completes enough of his requests, he will ask them to fulfill a special one, which is taking him along on a trip to the world outside the velvet room.

Through these dates, it's possible to learn more about his character, as well as some curious abilities and ideologies he possesses. For some reason, maybe in an attempt to impress the protagonist, or maybe because it's simply his nature, he acts as if he knows everything, which, coupled with his actual lack of knowledge plus his demeanor results in most of his character's humor.

In the very beginning of the first date, he sets his eyes on a fountain for the first time, and proudly exclaims that the residents of that world must get thirsty easily. After his theory presented as fact gets shot down by the protagonist, he says that he evidently knows its true purpose, and that he was only joking. Though, after this, he exclaims that it's meant to wash one's hands, which is evidently also not it. Also showing as examples of his pride are when he dips his hand into a pool, and measures its exact temperature, his voice sounding prideful as he exclaims that it's eight degrees Celsius.

Complementing his naive nature, Theodore lacks common sense in an astounding fashion. When told that a certain piece of food will be so good as to make one's cheeks fall off, he gets visibly concerned, and even pinches the protagonist's cheeks in a fit of worry. He promptly apologizes after, of course. His lack of ability to discern a metaphor from a fact is one of his key sources of humor, since he will blindly treat the information he is given as an actual fact.

Continuing on his lack of common sense, however, it is also shown when the protagonist takes him to the shrine, and attempts to make a donation to it in order to request a wish. Of course, as this is Theodore, things don't proceed in a very standard manner. Not being aware of the amount which one should donate, he dumps so much money on the offertory box that it nearly gives in from the ridiculous amount. His wish, though, which is to ask for the protagonist's safety, shows that he has the ability to feel compassion, and when the protagonist says she will wish for her friends' safety, Theo reveals he would like to meet said friends who support her so. Another of his gags is his extreme reluctance to ride an escalator, which he eventually gets on, showing great pride in himself when he gets off, claiming the action to be child's play.

As the dates proceed, Theo finds himself drawn to the protagonist more and more, reaching the point of falling in love with her, which shows that there is a lot more depth to his character than just a bit of a chump who can't ride escalators to save his life. This is shown in his final request, when he asks to visit the place the protagonist lives in. When he's escorted to her room, he admits to his attraction for her, also adding that he can't hope to calm the storm that's raging in his heart, but also saying that, regardless of what happens, this will be his last visit to the world outside the velvet room, because, should he be away from it for much longer, he may forget his duties as a denizen of it entirely. The protagonist can choose to indulge Theodore's whims, to which he replies that she is a cruel person, jokingly, due to the punishment that he will receive for such actions. Regardless, the screen fades to black followed by "You spent a long time alone with Theo...", which can be interpreted at will.

After this, he restates that this visit is his last, and the two return to the velvet room, where Theo asks the protagonist to forget about what he said, for both their sakes, but even after saying that, he says that, should she need his help, he will be there at the drop of a hat.

The dates with the protagonist incur a bit of a change in Theodore, and have him questioning himself, his existence as an avatar of power, and who he truly is. To this end, he asks a special request of the protagonist, to climb to the top of the extra dungeon that's unlocked after another of his requests, and to defeat whomever she finds there. Surprise surprise, though, the enemy that is waiting for her is Theodore himself. He is the game's optional secret frustrating extra hard boss, which makes sense, as he is an avatar of power, though, he's not evil, nothing of the sort.

The reason he called the protagonist out to fight him, is because he believes that he will find the answer to his inner questions about his identity should someone stronger than him arise and defeat him, and after the battle is said and done, he is surprised that there is no sudden epiphany being whispered to his ear, but that he, instead, feels a great deal of satisfaction inside. From this, he concludes that the only one that can answer the question of who he truly is is himself, and thanks the protagonist, along with rewarding her with a personal keepsake of his, a fragrant bookmark.

All in all, Theo's a bit of a dolt with a ridiculous amount of power at his disposal, though it is rarely employed. His naive, curious self is complemented by his politeness and his lack of common sense, with a dash of self discovery and inner questioning, to create a character that's tri-dimensional, yet amusing and funny.

Background: Theodore is a resident of the Velvet Room, and among those who preside over power. His duties in the game are to help the protagonist manage their persona, either by storing them in the compendium and registering them, or by permitting their withdrawal. He also makes various requests of the player, including some to escort him to the real world.

Abilities: Theo, as one of those who presides over power, is actually the crazy strong optional boss of persona 3, should the requirements be met. He's able to summon any persona from the compendium he carries, meaning he has access to a wide variety of elemental and healing spells, and can cast an enhanced version of one of the strongest spells in the game, Megidolaon, for 9999 damage (meaning, incalculable damage), should the conditions be met. However, he will rarely, if ever use his fighting abilities, only requesting a duel from the protagonist for his personal reasons.

First Person: [ Even if one has been around for ludicrous amounts of time, rarely will said individual know everything that is to know, and that proves to be very accurate with Theodore, though, his knowledge is far, far from being anywhere near grand. Sitting at Le Café Anglais, one leg crossed over the other, he is holding an ornate teacup in one hand, pinky finger standing out, of course, and a matching saucer in another, gently taking in the aroma wafting from the simple, yet fragrant tea contained in the cup. ]

60 degrees Celsius...

[ After a moment of hesitation, he closes his eyes and slowly brings the cup toward his mouth, taking a light sip of the liquid before his brows arch in response. ]

I see! It is now apparent why this "tea" has become so widespread. Not only is it invigorating and freshening, it also contains traces of tannin, making for an excellent refreshment.

[ Yes, he's talking to himself aloud. Were anyone to catch on to his lack of experience in the real world, they could take the opportunity to gain a very interested pupil on the subject. ]

Third Person: Some people would argue that having all the power in the world would be enough to make anyone ecstatic, but if that was so, then why wasn't Theo himself feeling like so? His time spent in the city so far has been intensely rewarding, bar the absence of his guest, but even so it's given him a big amount of insight into the customs outside the Velvet Room. For example, it is customary for people to have around three meals a day, and various times, he has also been told that the first one, entitled "breakfast" is the most important, due to the fact it provides nutrition for the remaining day.

"Hm..."

However, there's something that didn't quite make sense in the middle of all this. At least not for Theo.

"Why the name "breakfast"? Is it intended to break one's fastness?" He mutters to himself, a puzzled expression over his features.

"But why would a meal meant to provided nutrition be meant for making one slower?" He questions out loud, before sighing. Obviously he wasn't going to crack this one by himself, so, slowly, he rises from his seat, and looks up at the sun in the sky, a view he hasn't quite gotten used to seeing every day just yet, and admires it for a bit. Before long, he starts making his way through the streets of the city once more, wondering about the oddities of human naming rituals.
